Come support the independent comic scene.  You won’t find this kind of raw material anywhere else.

So…I am fat. Dangerously so. In truth I started to gain weight when my wife got pregnant with my first daughter almost 11 years ago now.
So a almost two years ago I started dieting. I was doing very well. Lost almost 60 lbs. Then in April my uncle died and my family kinda fell apart. My wife and kids were fine but my mom siblings and cousins not so much.
So like when my grandmother died I stayed face strong for them. I’m good at eating feelings.
So I broke my diet…boy did I. I went from the 335 I had made it down to all the way up to 425. Looking at scale broke my heart.
I decided to try again. In truth it sucks. Everyday I feel like I’m dying. Dieting sucks…
Now some say I need to take care of myself for my family. I’m going to say it here…that is fucking bullshit. If I can’t find it to do it for me….I won’t ever get it done.
I am pretty sure I have done irreparable damage to a body I had already abused when younger.
In truth I don’t expect to be around much longer then next year.
So now that I have confessed some of my sins I can say whatever happens happens. As an Atheist I am not afraid to die. I just always wanted to go with a bang. Ah well…
If things do change for me you could have much longer with me. Lol who knows what’s worse.

Remnants of Our Truth

Panel 2

Focus is still on Edwin.  He is now holding in his hand not occupied by the umbrella a small tube with what appears to be a button on it.  The view is from Brian’s perspective, so the bars of the gate are in the way.  SFX: Growls of zombies.  Edwin’s face is still calm, showing virtually no emotion at all.  The rain has still not let up and has even become a touch heavier.

Brian:

Don’t be a fool get the fuck out of here!!!

Panel 1

Focus is on Edwin looking calmly over his shoulder to his left.  The view is pulled back from his car on his left side as if someone was looking at him.  SFX:  zombie moaning.   The car is still in between the zombies and Edwin.  All the windows are rolled up still.  No light can be seen from inside the car.  Rain is pounding off of Edwin’s umbrella in sheets and landing on the ground around him.  His free hand appears to be reaching into his jacket breast pocket.  Jordan and Brian are now pressed up against the gate doing their best to look around the car to the oncoming zombies

Brian:

Run son those zombies will rip you into pieces!!!

Sometimes…

I need to get out

Walls are closing all around

There is no more hope

Panel 1

Establishing scene.  The time is roughly 7:30 p.m. on September 10th.  Street view of three houses.  The first house from left to right is an off white one floor ranch style house. No trees are in the front yard but there are several rows of bushes that appear to be in need of trimming. No cars are in the driveway of this home.   The second house is separated by a white picket fence from the first house.  This house is a two story former ranch house that has had additions put on it.  It has red vinyl siding and a small wooden porch on the right of it. No cars are present in the driveway. Two small trees are in the front yard and you can see one more over the top of the house from the back yard.  The third house is separated from the second house by a row well groomed pine trees.  It is a Rustic style 3 floor house.  It is painted brown but the paint is in need of repair.  The garage is attached to the house on the left side so it is close to the pine trees.  There is a small blue minivan in the driveway.  Shrubs line the driveway, and a few scattered little trees are in the yard.  A suspicious cement wall can be seen running behind the houses. it can also be seen along the far right side of the rustic style home. No lights are on anywhere.

Narrator:

The apocalypse came and went.  The world carried on.

Panel 2

Rotate view to show the barn style house on the left.  It will also be a slightly elevated view.  You are now looking at the very front of the barn house and its front yard on the left an empty street in the center.  the street barely wide enough for two cars.  It is paved but does not have line dividers.  The curbs appear to be intact.  The cement wall can be clearly seen now.  It is solid and at least eight feet high by 2 feet thick.  it appears to surround certain sections of this once normal neighborhood. The gate in the wall is in the center of the street and appears to be made of heavy iron bars.  Several shapes can be seen on the other side of the bars…but not clearly visible do to the thickness of the bars.  SFX: Low moaning.  The road over the wall appears to be clear and runs from left to right making the road that we are currently on a T-junction.   To the right you can see another two story white house. This house is in slightly ill repair.  You can see the remnants of a porch, and several trees have been cut down and litter the front lawn.  A blue jeep, and a yellow van with the hood popped open can be seen in the driveway.

Narrator:

Many people suffered during this time.  Many communities fell into chaos.  The world carried on.

Panel 3

Rotate view again.  View would be from the front yard of the upgraded ranch house.  it is a ground level view.  The angle starts at the side of the run down white house across the street.  you can clearly make out the wall running through the back yard of this house and the next two consecutive ones cutting them off from the houses behind them. The second house was a brown house but has been since torn down to rubble.  Bits of the house remain scattered across the yard.  Otherwise the house is gone. The third house is another ranch style house.  It is white with green shutters.  It is the most run down of the 5 houses in the gated mini community.  In the street bolted down are rows of 5 foot high poles.  the poles extend partially onto the brown houses lawn.  At the top of each pole are a mix match of solar panels.  Cords are running to the edge of the still standing houses then are buried underground.  Three men can be seen walking around the solar panels.  Frank the oldest.  He is 36 blonde with a receding hairline and heavy set.  He is wearing a dirty wife beater and cargo shorts.  A hunting rifle with a scope is slung over his arm.  Bill is the youngest at 19.  He is tall at 6’5” with blond hair.  He is thin to the point of being almost to thin.  He is wearing dirty jeans and a black tank top.  The tool belt on his waist shows he knows about the solar panels well.  The third man is the shortest of the three.  At 30 Ed is only 5’4” wearing dirty black sweat pants and no shirt he is covered in grease.  It is obvious that he along with Bill keep the solar panels and thus the power to the community running smoothly. SFX: Whirring of machines.

Narrator:

The world carried on.  Humanity struggled to survive.  What should have united everyone…tore us apart.  The zombies came…but they weren’t the real threat…humanity itself was.  The world carried on.

Panel 1:

The time is now 9 p.m.  It is dark out but the moonlight reflects down on this clear night illuminating the area around the solar panels.  We zoom in on Frank and Bill.  Frank looks much older than his 36 years.  You can tell from his hairline and waistline that he has seen some hard living over the years.  He now looks agitated and his right hand is now gripping the butt of the gun that is slung over his shoulder…almost to stop it from coming off his shoulder.  He is facing Bill.  Bill who looks every bit his 19 years.  He is thin but you can see he has some muscle to him.  He is holding a socket wrench in his hands as he is kneeling in front of one of the solar panels tightening one of the bolts in the street.

Frank:

So Melissa is going to have the baby any day now…and I shot 2 people trying to climb the wall to get in.  I don’t know which I feel better about.

Bill:

I don’t think you need to worry about Melissa sir.  She may be your daughter but it is my baby.  I will take good care of her.

Page 2

Panel 2

Still same time frame as panel 1.  Bill and Frank are now almost nose to nose.  It appears that the subject of Melissa is a sore one.  Ed is now also in the picture trying to separate the two.  He is well muscled and seems suited to the job. The dirt and grease on his body and pants appear to have been there a long time. The scene is pulled back as such to see the full bodies of each mean and partially the ground.  The socket wrench that was in Bill’s hand no falls to the ground. SFX: Clang.  Ed looks worried as if they father and boyfriend of Melissa are about to come to blows.  Ed has a hand on each of the other man’s chests in an attempt to separate them.

Ed:

You two need to cut the shit right now.  We are trying to survive…not kill each other.

Frank:

Stay out of this boy.

Page 2

Panel 3: Large Panel

SFX: Loud Siren.  The view shifts to a slightly elevated view of the corner of the cement wall where there is a 20 foot tall scouting tower.  It is made mostly of 2x4s and other pieces of wood that obviously came from the once brown house that resided close to where this tower now stands.  The floor to stand on in the tower is made out of what appears to be layered sheet rock and the wall that they used to build around the floor is made out of layered aluminum siding.  The roof of the last white ranch style house can just be seen in the picture.  A man can just barely be seen waving frantically and pointing to the outside of the wall.  Two large mounted spotlights can be seen but are not yet turned on. SFX: gunfire.  Bullets can be seen whizzing by the tower obviously being aimed at the man inside the tower but falling far short.

Page 2

Panel 4

Zoom in on the watchtower.  You can now see how rickety the watchtower is…but it also seems surprisingly well built.  Mike is the man inside the tower.  He is average height for a man around 6’ 0”.  He has sandy blonde hair and blue eyes.  He has a heavy beard from not shaving in what seems like years.  Mike is 30 years old.  His left arm is hanging limply from a gunshot, as he is still waving for everyone to get there.  Bill is already up the ladder, and Frank is close behind.  Both men are sweating profusely. Bill looks upset for being interrupted from the argument he was having with Frank.  Frank’s eyes looked angry but his face was exhausted.  The hunting rifle is still soundly on his back.  SFX:  Gunfire.  Bullets can still be seen whizzing by but they seem more erratic now.

Bill:

MIKE!  Are you fucking ok.  What the hell is going on?

Page 2

Panel 5

Close up view of the four men now inside of watchtower.  The bullets have stopped.  Bill, and Ed are kneeling on either side of a now fallen Mike.  Mike looks more pale from loss of blood.  His whole right side from his gunshot wound down is covered in thick blood.  Mikes shirt is torn in a strip which is being tied around his arm by Ed.  Both Ed, and Bill look very worried.  Frank has his hunting rifle up to his shoulder pointing it down at the intruder(s) on the other side of the wall.  His eyes are very wide and he is visibly shaken.  Sweat is visible on his face.  His gun is shaking ever so slightly.  His grip is so tight his knuckles are turning white.  SFX: Humming of lights.  To large spot lights that are powered by the solar panels have been turned on.

Mike:

I tried to warn you as soon as I saw them.

Frank:

What the fuck do you want?  You know you can’t get in here you piece of shit.

Inset in the upper left hand corner

The splash view is man height level on the street opposite side of the wall.  Pulled back about five feet from the scene.  The whole scene is lit up by the light of the two spot lights on the watchtower.  There are nine figures standing there.  Each one is carrying some form of firearm.  The leader (who you can tell because he is slightly out in front) has a large hunting rifle that he is holding with his one good arm. His other arm is clearly on usable for propping the gun on so he can pull the trigger with his good arm.  Half of the man’s face has been eaten away by something unknown.  The Zombies eyes were a remarkable blue.  The men around him were also zombies.  Some of them had clear eyes of various shades.  Others had eyes that were glazed over.  These zombies were obviously the more violent ones when not being controlled by a rational zombie.  The leader looked up in defiance to the man yelling down at him.  Lips pulled back into almost a sneer.  He had tufts of brownish hair around his head, but most of it was torn out long before this confrontation in September.  He is wearing tattered clothes.  Whatever their original color once was…it is unrecognizable now.  The other zombies are dressed much the same way.  There is a dead body among the zombies that they had obviously been caught and killed on their way to the wall.  The poor person never had a chance it appears (the body is unrecognizable).  The rest of the zombies both clear eyed and not look very restless.  The zombies are very worn down.  Not one of them is complete.  Either missing or broken limbs, hair in clumps, or chunks of skin just gone.    SFX: Low rumble of thunder.

Inset in the upper left hand corner

This inset is round.  It is a close-up of Frank as he is holding the gun.  You can clearly see that he is terrified of the zombies on the other side of the wall.  He is visibly shaken and sweating profusely.  The finger that is on the trigger of his gun is trembling.

Panel 1

Focus more on the four men in the watch tower.  A light from the second watch tower across the courtyard is shining light on them in the almost inky blackness now.  Rain has started to fall but it is not a heavy rain.  Bill and Ed are both working on Mike’s are.  Mike has appeared to have passed out.  SFX: Louder rumble of thunder.  Frank is still pointing the down at the zombies but he is now looking towards his home.  The middle home on the opposite side of the street.  His eyes are wide in what can only be described as anger and terror.  The hunting rifle itself is now resting on the edge of the watchtower.  SFX: A woman’s scream.

Melanie:

FRANK!  Brandy just went into labor.  We need you in here now!

Panel 2

Change angles to Franks view of his house.  A woman is standing in the doorway of his house waving her hands frantically.  From using the objects around her she appears to be about 5’4”.  Her hair color can’t be seen from this distance in the dark but you can see that it is almost hip length and is already matted down from the growing electrical storm distance of the strike is past the backyard wall.  The rain is now a complete downpour.  It is slowly making it harder to see past the lights shining from the watchtowers.

Frank:

What the FUCK do you mean she just went into labor?

Bill:

My baby is on the way?  I’m coming down.

Panel 3

Close up view of Bill and Frank.  Frank has dropped his gun to the ground at his feet. They both look incredibly angry and are in each others faces.  Both of them have their fists balled up and look ready to exchange blows.  Bill is looming over Frank but the conviction in his body isn’t there.  You can tell he is angry with Frank but more worried about his baby on the way.  Frank is the exact opposite.  He looks ready to kill Bill and is showing very little concern for his daughter and soon to be granddaughter that is now on the way.  Bright lights flood the scene.  More people are coming out of the houses to see what is going on.  SFX: Curious whispers from the crowd gathering.  There are only 6 other people in the compound.  Right now you can’t see any of the others.  They are background players.

Bill:

I swear Frank that if you don’t get out of my fucking way I will throw your fat ass over the wall to the zombies.

Frank:

I told you boy to stay away from my daughter you little fucking piss ant.

Panel 4

Switch to back in front of Franks house.  A very pregnant girl is trying to push her way past Melanie.  You can make out Melanie’s dirty blonde hair.  Her clothes are in the same ragged condition as everyone else’s.  Rain is pouring down hard enough to make Brandy almost unrecognizable.  She has roughly the same hair length as her mother but is shorter by at least two inches.  The two women are locked arm in arm. The pain on Brandy’s face looks excruciating.  Her water has not yet broken.  Rain is making the younger woman look dark.  Dark enough to wear you can barely tell she is human.  Her eyes are the only the only thing piercing the rain.  Those eyes were not focused on Melanie, but at her father Frank and her boyfriend Bill.

Melanie (panicked):

Brandy what are you doing out here, you need to get back in bed.

Brandy (screaming):

I WANT TO TALK TO MY DADDY!!!

Page 5

6 circular insets

This is a sky view looking down on the plantation.  You are high enough to see the wall and both watchtowers.  Your main focus will be on the middle of the “courtyard” with the solar panels.  You can make out more zombies now on the outside of the wall.  You can still see the rain pouring down.  There are several factions inside and outside of the compound.  There is the group of four men in one watchtower.  There is the single man holding the spotlight in the second watchtower (similarly constructed).  There is Melanie and Brandy wrestling with each other.  There is a small group of four gathering outside of the white house near the second watchtower.  The zombie group has grown in number.  The rain continues to pour.  Finally a car has somehow gotten to the main gate of the walled community.  Its lights are barely visible in the inky blackness of the night and thick rain.  The tops of the houses that can be seen are in ill repair but functioning.  Solar mix and match of solar panels can be seen on the tops of these houses.

                                                     Narrator:

Life isn’t kind.  The new world has destroyed many of the things we once all held dear.  Most of us can’t remember what happy is.  Survival is all we have.

Inset 1 Upper left hand corner

Focus is on Brandy and Melanie struggling against each other.  Brandy is a pretty young woman.  Her face is still a mask of pain but she is very alert.  She has a large Bowie knife strapped to her right hip.  It is at hand level when she puts her hands down to her sides.  Her cloths are ragged and loose fitting.  She is in a now almost see through white shirt and tan Capri’s.  She isn’t wearing a bra and her supple breasts are still perky.  Her nipples are hard and noticeable.  She is locked arm and arm with Melanie struggling to get by her.  Both women were now staring at the front gate to the compound where the car was sitting there parked.

Inset 2 Upper right corner

Focus is on Frank and Bill.  Both men are now struggling against each other.  They are very close to exchanging blows and it looks as if the younger man is winning. Frank is slightly looking past Bill to the gate of the compound at the car that has just pulled up.  Bill is ducking slightly do to the fact bullets have started to fly through the air again.  Bullets can be seen crisscrossing the rain in spots.  No one is in any real danger of getting hit do to both men being closer now to the edge of the watchtower railing away from the wall.  Mike and Ed can still be slightly seen.  Ed is still taking care of a downed Mike.

Inset 3 Lower left corner

The Focus is on the zombies outside the wall.  The one with the gun is taking pop shots at the group in the watchtower.  He has the rifle propped onto his bad arm and is pulling the trigger with his good one.  What is left of his face is stretched back in a wicked grin.  He can’t see the car so he is focused entirely on Frank who he can only see briefly as if there was a pushing match going on.  Even though his face held certain mirth to it his eyes were deadly serious and without feeling or pity for the humans he was shooting at.  Behind him the rain obscures the restless zombies.

Inset 4 Lower right corner

The focus is on the group of four.  There are two men, a woman, and a little girl.  The two men are holding hands.  Their faces can’t be seen because they are all looking at the car that has pulled up to the main gate.  The men are wearing dark colored jeans.  The one on the right has no shirt on and is well muscled if not a bit thin.  The one on the left has on a wife beater and is equally in shape.  They both have dark colored hair.  The woman has long blonde hair.  She is wearing what looks like a dirty purple dyed wool dress.  The little girl has her blond hair in pig tails.  Her hair is also blonde.  She is carrying a small teddy bear in her arms and is hugging it tight.  The rain is beating down on them.

Inset 5 Bottom middle

The focus is now on the black sedan at the compounds gate.   The car itself doesn’t look special.  It is a driver side view of the car.  The windows are tinted so dark it is impossible to see inside of it.  The tires of the car are amazingly clean.  It looks like it has driven to the compound completely unmolested.  The engine is still running, and the headlights are pouring into the compound through the gate.  It appears the passenger side door is opened now.  No one is visible getting out of the car.  The rain bounces off the car in large splashes.  The headlights are still shinning into the compound but the inky blackness seems to want to suppress them.

Page 6

4 square Panels

Panel 1

Focus is on the zombies.  More zombies have shown up and with them have come more dead bodies.  The lead zombie has stopped wasting bullets on the watchtower.  His gun is now in a large holster across his back.  He is motioning for the other zombies to move pointing to the opposite side of the compound.  Rain is still obscuring how many zombies there are but in the inky blackness of it all you can see several shapes leave the main group and take off at a run around the compound.

Lead Zombie:

It’s payback time my children.  Let’s get in there.

Panel 2

This panel shifts to an establishing shot of the zombies running around the outer wall.  It is the first good look of the wall.  In the rain you can see it is rough and course.  It implies that the wall was poured by hand with makeshift tools instead of professionally done.  The rain is hitting the wall and bouncing off hard.  The amount of zombies running will be eleven.  There are four different types of zombies.  One type seems to have escaped much harm in their afterlife and is sprinting at full speed.  There are two of those.  The second type appears to be missing upper body parts to some degree or another.  These ones are running only slightly slower than the first group.  There is four of this type.  The third group appears to be in pretty bad shape.   Missing limbs both arms and legs seem to be the norm for them.  This is the most disheveled group.  There are three in this group.  The last group doesn’t appear to have any real wounds.  They also don’t appear to be in any hurry as they are talking to themselves.  They give off a dangerous vibe and their faces are hidden by the rain.  There are two of these.  The one on the left is looking slightly up at the wall as if in quiet contemplation.  He is listening to the other zombie talk.

Smart Zombie:

I don’t know who he thinks he is always talking about payback this and payback that…and another thing I’m not his CHILD either.

Panel 3

The focus is on the two men the woman and the little girl.  It is now a frontal view of them.  The group has moved in front of the gate.  The men are no longer holding hands and are shielding their eyes.  The one on the right is named Jordan.  He has on a wife beater that is soaked clean through due to the rain.  The man on the right is only a little shorter and without a shirt.  His name is Brian. Both men are well muscled and in good shape but a tad thin.  The little girl is now hugging the older woman.  Both are soaked to the bone.  The teddy bear the little girl is holding is now dragging on the ground.  The little girl’s name is Amethyst.  The older woman she is hugging is named Violet.  They both look terrified, and not related.  Even though both men are shading their eyes and struggling to see the have a protective stance to them.  The Violet is Stroking Amethyst’s hair in a comforting fashion.

Jordan:

It’s late and the zombie warning is out.  We don’t have the food to share and we are NOT opening these gates.  Go away.

Panel 4

Focus is now on the car.  The blinding light of the sedan stops any clear view of it.  The passenger door is wide open now.  A man is standing there holding an umbrella.  The man’s name is Edwin. You can’t make out his face do to the combination of rain and high beams on the car.  You can sort of make out dark sunglasses on his face.  You can just see enough of his hand, that is holding a umbrella to tell he is Hispanic.  He is very well dressed in a white suit and black tie.  All of it is distorted by the rain.  His hair is well groomed and short.  The clearest thing you can see on him is his umbrella.  It is blood red and stands out against the lights and rain.  The man seems of average height and build.  His posture is very stiff and imposing.  He gives the impression of being a coiled snake ready to pounce at any time.  Behind him you can make out ruined houses that make up the neighborhood the gated community is in.  They are also distorted but you can still tell they are houses.

Edwin:

Who is in charge here?

Ok guys here it is.  Tuesday…It is a good day.  We have been on a journey with this mini.

A little Haiku

When my eyes are closed

Death comes and takes my hand

I am not afraid
